Globe valves, also known as angle valves, have an orifice, usually round or oval with a tapered plug, which is generally in disc-shaped placed on the end of a stem, and is also known as a "valve stem". This stem regulates the passage of an element and the role of "all or nothing".
In globe valves, the closure member sits on a circular section. As the closure member approaches the valve seat, the flow section is reduced and, thus, increases the pressure drop, thereby decreasing the flow. In some applications, the difference in pressure helps to close the valve and others, it helps to open.
